4TU.ResearchData provides an archive for long-term access and curation of research datasets, with a focus on data from science, engineering and technology. The archive went live in 2010 and since then has been managed as a service for researchers (from universities around the world) to deposit and share their data, and for other researchers to download and use data in their research.
Within the 4TU.Federation, 4TU.Centre for Research Data (short: 4TU.ResearchData) was established in 2008 as an initiative of three technical universities, namely Eindhoven, Delft and Twente. The three universities joined forces in a Consortium, despite the fact that the name 4TU.ResearchData suggests otherwise.
Starting with a data collection of hydrological measurements resulting from the DareLux project, 4TU.ResearchData has grown to become what we believe is the largest data archive of its type in The Netherlands.
Our mission is to ensure the accessibility of technical scientific research data during and after completion of research to give a quality boost to contemporary and future research.
The 4TU.ResearchData archive is hosted and managed by the TU Delft Library, locally stored on TU Delft servers and governed by the legal statements of its host institution, the TU Delft. 4TU.ResearchData staff, all located at the TU Delft Library, is responsible for managing and maintaining the data archive, including its preservation policy to guarantee long-term usability and comprehension of its archive’s data.
With regard to the archiving of research data, the team works closely with research support staff of member- and other institutions (so called front offices).
The Board of the 4TU.ResearchData Consortium is comprised of representatives from each member institution including the Secretary of the 4TU.Federation. The Board sets down the 4TU.ResearchData’s long-term plan, annual plan, approves budgets, and takes decisions on its strategy.
The 4TU.ResearchData consortium is open to organizations that share our mission and it will make an active contribution to it.
As a partner of 4TU.ResearchData:
You will take part in board meetings and front-office consultation, which makes you share in the knowledge and influence on the development of our products and the strategy and its implementation by 4TU.ResearchData .
You are represented in the cooperations and consultative committees where 4TU.ResearchData engages in.
As 4TU.ResearchData partner you are making a contribution to securing access to technical scientific research data through your commitment to the board and the local front office and with financial support from the shared back and front office.
Are you interested in a possible 4TU.ResearchData partnership or do you have questions about it? Please contact 4TU.ResearchData.
Data Seal of Approval
Since early 2013, 4TU.ResearchData has held the Data Seal of Approval. This certificate and the associated guidelines ensure researchers that the data will remain accessible in the future.
